How to choose an abrasive for processing glass and profiles

Categories

Glass elements in industry often require grinding and processing before installation. This is not about polishing optics, but about chamfers, edges and joints of window and door systems. This is where it is important to choose the right abrasive materials, which ensure safe and high-quality processing without chips and overheating.

🔸 1. Abrasives for grinding glass edges

In building glass, the following are most often processed:

  • external edges after cutting

  • ends of glass inserts

  • seams where glass is connected to a metal or PVC profile

For this purpose, abrasive belts or medium-grained circles are used, which ensure uniform grinding without aggressive effects.

🔸 2. Processing glass and profiles before painting or installation

Glass can be processed on angle grinders together with:

  • aluminum inserts

  • composite profiles

  • plastic parts

Here the ideal choice would beVSM or Stark Abrasive fabric-based belts, with moderate aggressiveness, capable of working without clogging.

🔸 3. Which abrasive is better?

✅ For glass and profile Stark Abrasive recommends:

  • grit beltsP120–P240

  • soft abrasive wheels for hand-held machines

  • high-temperature resistant materials with prolonged use

Polishing or grinding glass in industrial conditions requiresprecise selection of abrasive. Contact Stark Abrasive — we will select a belt or wheel for your processing conditions.
