ALU-X: an expert in aluminum grinding

VSM company introduced the successor to its successful STEARATE Plus series: VSM ALU-X

Manufacturing company Vereinigte Schmirgel- und Maschinen-Fabriken (VSM) AG, based in Hanover, has released a new series of abrasives - VSM ALU-X, continuing the successful STEARATE Plus series.

ALU-X is a new series of abrasives developed by VSM according to the specialized requirements for processing non-ferrous metals, replacing the popular VSM STEARATE and STEARATE Plus series. Two effective VSM technologies were used for the production of these abrasives: VSM CERAMICS abrasive grain technology with permanent self-sharpening, which has proven itself well in practice, combined with an additional layer of VSM ALU-X, which significantly improves chip removal.

Exceptional performance and reduction of chip adhesion

"Improved chip removal and therefore less frequent tool changes, the production of more workpieces per shift and the ability to work without the use of lubrication are the requirements that our customers place on abrasives for processing non-ferrous metals such as aluminum." - says Heiko Schaefer, VSM product manager. "And we are glad that our ALU-X series product meets these requirements."

"A new additional layer of ALU-X reduces chip adhesion and, therefore, significantly reduces abrasive clogging. Therefore, ceramic abrasives XF733 and XK733X with ALU-X technology are distinguished by increased performance and take 40% more material. In addition, chip adhesion is reduced , which ensures a longer service life and less frequent tool replacement," adds Heiko Schaefer.

Less cleaning, more sanding

If ordinary abrasives are used for processing aluminum, lubricants and grinding oils are used to increase their service life. For ALU-X it is not necessary. The additional grinding layer and the semi-open coating of the ceramic grain significantly reduce chip adhesion. Thanks to ALU-X, there is no need to use lubricants at the workplace, and thanks to a longer service life, the duration of grinding is also increased.

ALU-X: Made in Germany

At its head office in Hanover, VSM develops and manufactures not only all flexible abrasives, but also ceramic abrasive grains. Abrasive grain is produced by the company independently, which allows to significantly influence the productivity of abrasives. Thanks to its development department, VSM also has the ability to improve existing solutions and implement innovations.

Five aluminum grinding experts

With the help of abrasives from the ALU-X series from VSM, you can easily perform almost any grinding work on non-ferrous metal workpieces, whether it is preparing or removing welds, removing protrusions, grinding defects during repair grinding or achieving the desired surface quality .

VSM CERAMICS with ALU-X is available as XF733 fiber discs in 24, 36, 60 and 80 grit: Excellent for rough sanding with low and medium pressure. Also available as XK733X sanding belt in 24, 36, 40, 60, 80 and 120 grit. Optimized for rough sanding with medium pressure and also suitable for wet sanding.

The ALU-X series also includes VSM ALUMINUM OXIDE KK732X, KK532F and KP532E abrasive belts. These products are available in grits from P36 to P600, making them truly versatile. The abrasive grain creates a matte texture on the treated surface and is especially recommended for processing contours.
